Developing the Perfect Fit for ‘Imperfect Body’

This is a self-project aiming to find a better way to find perfect fitting clothes from online stores and make the online shopping experience more enjoyable.

Roles: UX

The better ways to find perfect fit clothes from online stores?

This is my story of designing ‘TryOn’—a feature that allows online apparel stores to provide better services for their customers.

As a cute chubby girl, I found it was hard and could be frustrated finding the perfect fit clothes from shopping online.

I started to see the problems happened on my friends and my family members. If the item was not fit, we ended up have to wait extra days for return/refund, or we had to give it to somebody else.

I saw an opportunity to provide a much-needed service. I started to do more researches and forged ahead crafting a feature to solve the problem.

Objects

I’d like to explore how I might help people

  • Find perfect fit clothes

  • Make online shopping experience more enjoyable.

  1. DISCOVERING

Quality and Quantity Research

  • 40 responses + 5 interviews where participants had to answer questions regarding their online clothing habits and what matters the most to them during their shopping experience.

Gave us a general understanding of the shopping experiences customers have, responsibilities, motivations and pain points.

  • Reviewing 20 online shopping websites:

Are products and services meet customers expectation? What are customer gains and pains? Where are gaps & opportunities?

2. ANALYSING

Customers Insights

  • 75% people have problems choosing the right clothes for their body. (pants are not long enough, dresses that only fit the top part, etc…)

  • While shopping online, users are most frustrated when they need to pick a size

  • People find size charts very confusing

  • Even by using size charts, users are worried the item wouldn’t fit after all

  • Most users use their desktop for online clothing

  • Most users use Instagram, Pinterest photos for clothes inspiration

“I don’t have the ideal body and this can make shopping online hard. I get frustrated when picking a size and even using the size charts, the items wouldn’t fit after all. The waiting game is the hardest when it comes to the return/exchange process.”

3. User Needs

They need to see how the items look on them as they try them on. And they want to know the basic knowledge/tips of selecting the right items for their body type.

3. SOLVING

Solutions + Challenges

I focus on the paint points, one by one. Generating solutions & capture them in the form of assumptions then sorted these by risk & challenge.

  • What is the most accurate way to measure a customer’s body?

  • How to let customers feel safe and secure when we need to know about their bodies?

  • Which is the most comfortable and easy way to make this happen?

  • How to make this virtue shopping more convenience, and effective, and more satisfaction?

“TRYON’S Automated Feature gives customers opportunity to try on clothes in few clicks, and provides a virtue stylists serve as a ‘shopping buddy’.”
